Shackelford County ResourceCare hosted the 18th annual spring health fair at the Albany Bank Park last Friday, May 13.

ResourceCare program director Mindy Ary said children attended from Nancy Smith Elementary School and the Mother’s Day Out program.

“I would say close to 300 kids came through,” said Ary. “The children enjoyed all of the games, prizes, snow cones, and popcorn.”

The health fair included representatives from local and area profit and nonprofit agencies including West Central Texas Council of Governments, Amerigroup, Region 14 Headstart, the local fire department, Betty Hardwick Center, First Financial Bank, Regional Crime Victims Crisis Center, 9-1-1, United Way of Abilene-211, and BCFS Health & Human Services.

ResourceCare had booths set up representing their counseling, dental, and outreach services.

“High school volunteers were a huge help, and we are very appreciative of the school allowing them to attend each year,” said Ary.

The high school students volunteered to help younger students with the various activities, and “Sixth Grade Buddies” also chaperoned their assigned kindergarten students.
