The JV Lion football team picked up a commanding 56-12 win over a visiting JV team from Clyde last Thursday to improve to 5-0 for the season.

The Lions will travel to Ranger this week to play a Stephenville JV squad since Ranger does not have a JV this season. The kickoff is expected at 6:15 p.m. following the junior high game in Ranger.

“It was all Albany against Clyde last week,” coach David Fairchild said. “The guys dominated the game on both sides of the ball.”

Albany set the tone for the game with London Fuentes returning the opening kick 55 yards  for a touchdown. Caden Price ran the ball in for the two-point play.

Quarterback Lute Wheeler capped the next Lion series with a scoring pass to Fuentes in the end zone to give the Lions a 14-0 lead. The conversion attempt failed.

Price got the call to score on a four-yard run for the next tally, with Wheeler passing to Keatin Russell to bump the lead to 22-6.

Lanxton Viertel made a tackle in the Clyde end zone for a safety, followed by another touchdown run by Price to give the Lions a 30-6 lead. The two-pointer failed.

“The defense played well all night,” the coach said. “We had a big series with Viertel’s tackle for a safety, and later Bryce Herring scooped up a fumble and ran the ball 30 yards for a touchdown.

The try for two points failed, leaving the Lions with a 36-6 lead.

Viertel was also credited with the next Lion touchdown, rushing behind a surge of Lion linemen.

The coach recognized offensive linemen Zane Waggoner, Cole Read, Tye Edgar, Coy Knight, Koy Cauble, and Cort Peterson.

The two-pointer failed.

Adam Hill took the next score to the end zone on a 52-yard inside quarterback run. The conversion failed.

Price scored his third touchdown of the game on a 51-yard run, with the PAT good to tally a final score of 56-12.

“It was an all-round good game for our guys,” Fairchild said.
