Albany ISD opens online registration for fall classes

Online registration for returning Albany ISD students is expected to open Thursday, July 31 (today), pending the successful rollover of the district’s registration system.

The district will continue using the Ascender Parent Portal for the registration process. Parents can access the portal through the “Parent Sources” tab on the Albany ISD website. A new “Registration Help” tab has been added to provide step-by-step instructions for completing the process.

Once the portal is live, an announcement will be posted on the district’s Facebook page.

In-person registration for all grades will be available at the high school campus on Aug. 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and Aug. 5, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Staff from both the elementary and secondary campuses will be present to assist families.

Students in grades 7–12 who register online will still need to attend in-person registration to receive class schedules and school-issued laptops. Elementary students will receive their devices after the start of classes.

Parents are asked to update any changes to contact information in the Ascender Parent Portal. As part of this year’s registration, families will be required to complete a separate Title I form that collects household income information used to determine federal funding eligibility. This replaces the previous free and reduced lunch application.

New students may register online by uploading the required documents through the portal or register in person during the scheduled in-person days. Required documents include a birth certificate, immunization records, social security card, proof of residency, a parent or guardian’s driver’s license or ID, and for students in grades 7–12, a transcript or recent report card. School personnel will be available to scan documents if needed.

Head Start and Pre-K Programs

Spots remain available in the Head Start and Pre-K programs at Nancy Smith Elementary. Applications for Head Start may be picked up at the high school during in-person registration on Aug. 4–5.

Required documents for Head Start include income verification (such as a tax return or pay stubs), birth certificate, immunization records, insurance card, CHIPS or Medicaid information, social security card, and proof of residency.

Parents interested in enrolling their children in the Pre-K program may also attend in-person registration to determine eligibility. Under House Bill 2, eligibility has been expanded to include children of full-time public school employees regardless of household income. Children who will be four years old by Sept. 1 are given priority if space is limited.

Pre-K eligibility may also be based on income level, military status, foster care involvement, limited English proficiency, homelessness, or if the child is related to a Texas award recipient.

All students registering for Head Start or Pre-K must provide a birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, proof of residency, and the parent’s driver’s license or ID.

For additional information on Head Start, parents may contact the elementary school office at 325-762-3384.
