The Lady Lions will be on the road next Tuesday, Jan. 8 for games in Stamford. Tip-off will be at 5:00 p.m. for the JV and 6:30 p.m. for varsity.

Local Tournament

The varsity got off to a slow start last Thursday with a 51-25 loss to Hamlin in the first game of the tournament.

“This was a rough game for us,” coach Tate Thompson said. “It was our first game back after the Christmas break and we played probably the worst we have played all year. I hope to never see that side of us again.”

Jillian Guinn was named the offensive standout, leading at the boards with eight points. Also scoring were Torie Fuentes 6, Alli Hill 5, Elia Hebel 5, and Jaleigh Morales 1.

The Lady Lions rebounded with a 43-35 win over Big Spring later on Thursday.

“I am proud of the girls for bouncing back after the Hamlin game,” Thompson said. “They showed lots of character by overcoming the adversity that we faced early on. These kids really have great character and that is what helps them when we face a tough situation.”

Morales was named offensive standout with 12 points, with Hill picked for defense.

Also scoring for the team were Fuentes 9, Guinn 11, Cydney Nelson 3, Hill 6, and Hebel 4.

Hill was the leading scorer with 14 points, along with Fuentes 5, Guinn 4, Nelson 5, Morales 10, and Hebel 5.
