The Albany Junior High tennis program earned five medals, including three gold, at its district tournament played Thursday-Friday, May 4-5 at Abilene’s Rose Park Tennis Center.

“I was proud of the way our kids competed,” coach M.J. Reneau said. “Our numbers weren’t as big as they were last year, so we didn’t have as many in events. But the events we did participate in, we medaled.”

In the girls division, played Thursday, Charli Trail and Finlee Brown won the seventh grade doubles title. In eighth grade doubles, Hattie Braly and Tatum Grady finished second.

Albany picked up two titles in the seventh grade boys competition. Graham Ceder won in singles, with Clay Chapman and Aiden Vickers winning in doubles. In eighth grade boys doubles, Casey Estridge and Christian Hernandez finished third.

“I thought it was an exceptional group as far as their attitudes and behavior,” Reneau said. “The kids worked hard, they were respectful and they had fun.”
