A band director hired by the Albany ISD board of trustees declined to sign a contract, according to information received from AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott after press time last week.

Russell Pettitt met with the board at the regular session on June 15, indicating at that time that he would accept the position, with plans to return the next morning and sign a one-year probationary contract.

However, Scott learned on Wednesday via email that Pettitt had decided to stay in Crosbyton, where he has been band director for the last three years.

“I was disappointed to hear from Mr. Pettitt about his change of decision to join Albany ISD,” said Scott. “A couple of days after the board approved his contract last week, I received notice from Mr. Pettitt that he had changed his mind and would be staying where he is currently employed.”

The superintendent said that the search for a new band director would continue, and on Monday of this week, he and new secondary principal Glen Hill interviewed two additional applicants.

“We will continue to search for a candidate that we believe offers the best for our band program,” said Scott.
