AISD reports 2 more COVID cases

With two more COVID-19 cases at the Albany’s secondary campus, making a total of five since the school year started, there are still just three active, as two students returned to their classrooms this week after the required 10 days of quarantine.

The three newest cases are all AISD staff members, according to announcements sent out by superintendent Jonathan Scott.

“The district continues to evaluate the COVID status on campus every day and throughout the day,” said Scott. “Our decisions on how to manage the cases are driven by the data that we have. I am pleased with the students’ and staff’s efforts in navigating these issues each and every day.”

Although mask requirements are based on the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID dashboard, the numbers on the website seem to run two or more weeks behind “real time.”

Albany mayor Susan Montgomery feels the number of active cases is still well below the 20 that would make masks mandatory, and at press time Wednesday she was aware of only the three active school cases.

“We must do everything possible to help slow the virus’ spread,” said Montgomery. “Now is the time for unity, for this community to work together to stop this virus and its shattering consequences.”

She urged use of masks in public places, along with frequent handwashing.

“If you do not feel well, please stay at home,” Montgomery said. “Also, be responsible for your actions and your decisions that affect this community.”
