AISD online registration underway

Online registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now underway for both campuses in the Albany Independent School District.
Director of student services Leigh Lowe reported that online registration is available district-wide this year. Last year, it was only accessible to parents of elementary students.
With the first day of school beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 19, parents need to go online to get students registered before the deadline coming up in early August.
“Returning students can register by the primary contact on the Parent Portal that was used in the 2019-2020 school year,” Lowe said.
She added that if a student is returning and the parent has not set up a Parent Portal, they can use the Parent Portal request form on the website.
The form is found on the parents page on the district’s website at www.albanyisd.net.
Parents of new students will need to create an account online and follow the instructions for registration, according to Lowe.
“The links for returning and new students are both located on the parents page of the district website,” Lowe said.
Once parents have completed registration, students are put “in line” for staff to check documents and accept the registrations.
“The Parent Portal will show that the student is in the previous grade until enrollment is approved,” Lowe said. “Parents will be contacted if more information is needed for enrollment.”
The Parent Portal, used for registration and checking grades online, works best with the Chrome browser.
Registration for new students to AISD, along with enrollment of returning students who need to register in person, will take place on both campuses on Aug. 5.
“Parents of new students are encouraged to go ahead and start the registration process online if possible to speed up the in-person registration,” Lowe explained. “With COVID restrictions, we are asking that just the parent enrolling attend the new student registration.”
Parents of new enrollees should have the student’s birth certificate, immunization records, and social security card, as well as the parent’s drivers license and proof of residency.
“These forms can be uploaded online when registering the new student or brought to the new student registration event on Aug. 5,” Lowe said.
Meet the Teacher plans will be announced in the next few weeks, along with the 2020-2021 school supply list for NSES and the secondary campus.
“Plans are being decided one step at a time, with TEA approval and input from the community to make the best decisions for our students and teachers,” Lowe said.
