Everyone with an interest in the Albany Independent School District is invited to a public meeting at 6:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at the Aztec Theater, with school leaders planning informal presentations as well as fielding questions from the audience.

Although the meeting has been scheduled as a response to the district’s accountability report, AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott said that he would like to make the “State of the School” meeting an annual event.

“We want to provide parents and the community an opportunity to learn more about the past year’s performance and also go over goals for the upcoming school year,” said Scott.

Local student services coordinator Leigh Lowe emphasized that the session is for any interested community members.

“We really would love to see all parents of pre-K through 12 graders,” she said.

AISD officials will review information from the 2018-2019 school year, such as highlights and state reports.

“We also want to discuss some plans for this year and hear from the community and parents, especially ideas, suggestions, or questions,” said Lowe. “We had great suggestions from a small meeting at the end of last school year, but we are always looking for more feedback.”

The public meeting was initiated as a way to explain the complex state scoring system and outline steps the district is taking to improve academic performance.

Albany ISD earned a composite score of 86 out of 100, or a B overall, on the state “report card,” with the elementary campus receiving a D ranking and the secondary campus a B.

“Albany ISD appreciates the support from our community and would like to extend the invitation to join us as we continue our positive working relationship with the community,” said Scott.
