Albany ISD students and staff are out of school this week for spring break, returning to their classrooms on Monday, March 21.

The school will pick up the regular schedule on Monday, with only two more holidays remaining in the 2021-2022 school year.

Students and staff will be off again on Good Friday, April 15 and Easter Monday on April 18.

The district is having to making up time for days missed earlier in this semester due to bad weather, but the Easter holidays will remain intact.

Students are required to attend a total of 75,600 minutes in the school year to meet requirements. While the upcoming April 15 and 18 holidays had originally been designated as bad weather make-up days, the school’s District Improvement Committee opted to add the extra minutes needed to the last three days of the school year on May 24-26.

Originally scheduled to be three half-days to end the year, the time has been extended to full days with 3:30 p.m. releases in order to retain the Easter holidays.

The district came up short by 480 minutes due to school days in January and February that were cancelled due to weather.

“If there are no more missed days, we will not need to use either of the designated bad weather days,” superintendent Jonathan Scott said. “The DIC voted for this option rather using the two remaining holidays at Easter.”

Book Fair,

Grandparents Week

The school has set Grandparents Week for April 4-8 at Nancy Smith Elementary, according to principal John Gallagher.

The Parent-Teacher Organization will also host the annual Book Fair in the cafeteria on the same days.

The books will be set up on the stage in the cafeteria for students and grandparents to view. The usual assortment of books, games, posters, bookmarks, and other supplies will be available.

Grandparents will be invited during the week to eat with students. A detailed schedule of times by grade level will be published soon.

Lunch periods at the campus are staggered from 11:00 a.m. through 1:15 p.m.
