AISD classes to resume Monday

Albany ISD students and staff are out of school this week for the spring break holidays but will all return to the classroom on Monday, March 20.

Classes will resume at normal times on Monday, with the elementary classes starting at 7:55 a.m. and the secondary school following at 8:00 a.m.

Students and staff will be off again for Good Friday, April 7 and the Monday following Easter on April 10.

Both holidays were designated as bad weather days on the school calendar, and three school days were missed in January due to icy weather.

However, the district had “banked” enough minutes during the current school year to keep the two Easter holidays intact.

Students are required by the Texas Education Agency to attend a total of 75,600 minutes during a school year. The local district included a few more minutes each school day in order to accumulate a buffer.

“If we don’t lose another day to weather, we will be fine,” superintendent Jonathan Scott said. “We had enough minutes built up to cover the three days in January.”

The district is currently at the midway point of the fifth six-weeks grading period. The final day of classes is set for May 25, with graduation scheduled for May 26.
