Students and staff of Albany Junior-Senior High School and Nancy Smith Elementary School will be back in class on Tuesday, Jan. 7 to start the second semester and the fourth sixth weeks of the 2019-2020 school year.

Teachers return for a staff development day at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6.

After a breakfast provided the Albany Ministerial Alliance at the NSES cafeteria, the entire staff will participate in STAAR testing training by Leigh Lowe. That session will be followed by  school safety and cybersecurity training at 10:00 a.m.

Most of the staff will return to their campuses and have lunch on their own while the special education monitoring team will have a “working lunch” in the cafeteria.

There will be staff meetings on both campuses at 2:30 p.m.

Classes will begin at the usual times on both campuses, with the tardy bell ringing at 7:55 a.m. for elementary students and 8:00 a.m. for the secondary campus.

The next scheduled break in the AISD school year will be on Monday, Jan. 20 for MLK Day, followed by a student holiday and staff comp day for the county livestock show on Friday, Jan. 24.

A student holiday and staff development day will take place in February on Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 17.

Spring break is March 9-13, and then there is a holiday on Good Friday, April 10. Students will be off on Monday, April 13.

The spring semester ends at noon on Wednesday, May 20, and graduation is set for Friday, May 22.
