AISD classes end 2021-2022 school year today
By Sam Waller
Rain forced the Nancy Smith Elementary School Field Day indoors earlier this week, but it couldn’t delay the start of summer vacation. Albany schools wrapped up the 2021-22 year today with early release at 2:30 p.m.
Before that, a junior high awards ceremony was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
Albany ISD offices will be closed Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day, then start summer hours on Tuesday, May 31.
The administration, junior/senior high, and NSES offices will be open 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday until the start of the next school year.
Summer school at both campuses will be held 8:00 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday from June 6 through June 24. Summer school at NSES is for students third grade and up.
“A student can come for attendance if they didn’t meet the 90 percent rule, if their grades aren’t where they’re supposed to be, or if they failed STAAR or EOC tests,” junior/senior high principal Glen Hill said. “Any one of those three things qualify.”
Junior high and high school instruction will focus on each student’s individual needs, Hill said.
“Some will be doing math, some reading, some social studies through online curriculum,” he said. “It’s targeted toward what they need.”
