Three members of the Albany ISD board of trustees were present for a special meeting at noon on Friday, Nov. 6 to canvass the votes for the COVID-delayed May board election that finally took place Nov. 3 in conjunction with the General Election.

Even though school board meetings normally require four trustees to be in attendance for action to be taken, two board members consitute a quorum for the purpose of canvassing an election, according to AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott.

He also explained that the canvassing has to be complete no sooner than three days after the election and not more than 11 days, so a special session had to be held because the regular Nov. 16 board meeting would have been 14 days since the election.

Incumbent Ginny Ivy was reelected to her Place 2 seat over challenger Paul Johnston in a close race. The canvass validated the count of 616 votes for Ivy and 555 for Johnston.

Robert Montgomery was not contested for Place 1, receiving 1,074 votes, with that number also ratified at Friday’s brief meeting.
