AISD back-to-school process starts
Registration for Albany ISD students remains open online and in person this week, as campuses prepare for the start of school on Aug. 13.
According to Nancy Smith Elementary secretary Stephanie Gleitz, registration is still available both online and in person at the elementary and junior high/high school campuses.
“We will be in the office this week to help any additional parents with registration,” Gleitz said. “We do have a few staff meetings throughout the week, so they may want to call first if they need in-person assistance.”

She added that the district still has available spots in both the Head Start and Pre-K programs and encouraged parents of 3- and 4-year-olds to apply.
“We want to make sure those classes are full,” she said. “We invite parents to come by and fill out applications this week.”
For questions regarding registration at Nancy Smith Elementary, parents may call 325-762-3384.
Secondary Registration
In the secondary office, Payton Rogers said that Albany Junior/Senior High School registration is ongoing and follows the same format.
“The online portal is open and can be accessed at any time,” Rogers said. “If parents have any issues, they should call the office for assistance.”
The secondary campus office may be reached at 325-762-3974.
Parent Portal
The district is continuing to use the Ascender Parent Portal for online registration. A link is available under the “Parent Sources” tab on the Albany ISD website. A “Registration Help” tab provides step-by-step instructions for families needing assistance.
Parents are asked to update contact information and complete a separate Title I form required again this year in place of the previous free and reduced lunch application. The information is used to determine federal funding eligibility for the district.
New students may register online by uploading required documents or may do so in person. These include a birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, proof of residency, parent or guardian’s driver’s license or ID, and for grades 7–12, a transcript or recent report card. School staff will be available to scan documents if needed.
Students in grades 7–12 who register online will still need to attend in-person registration to receive class schedules and school-issued laptops. Elementary students will receive their devices after the start of classes.
Head Start and Pre-K
Spots remain open in both the Head Start and Pre-K programs at Nancy Smith Elementary. Applications for Head Start must include income verification (such as a tax return or pay stubs), birth certificate, immunization record, insurance card, CHIPS or Medicaid information, social security card, and proof of residency.
To qualify for the Pre-K program, children must be four years old by Sept. 1. Eligibility may be based on income level, limited English proficiency, military or foster care status, homelessness, or relation to a Texas award recipient. Under House Bill 2, children of full-time public school employees also qualify regardless of income.
Required documentation for both programs includes a birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, proof of residency, and the parent’s driver’s license or ID.
Parents with questions about Head Start or Pre-K enrollment may call the elementary campus at 325-762-3384.
