Despite the beginning of spring sports, other extra-curricular activities, and bad weather, Albany High School had a total of 23 students compete in last week’s Holliday High School virtual academic meet.

Individual Winners

Tana Thompson was second and Paige Picquet fourth in Ready Writing.

Hannah Trail placed second and Susie Cormack sixth in Editorial Writing.

In Feature Writing, Cormack earned fifth and Thompson sixth.

Ashley Richards placed sixth in Headline Writing.

Sarah Cotter was the first place finisher in News Writing, followed by Ty Everitt in second and Thompson in sixth.

In the Science category, Luke Ivy had the third highest score in both Biology and Chemistry which put him in a tie for fourth place overall. He ultimately won a tie-breaker and earned the fourth place spot.

AHS sponsors worked with students and their schedules last week to get all entries submitted by the deadline of midnight on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Local academic director Rick Davis said that there were originally more students signed up, but too many conflicts arose for all of them to compete.

“We had more students registered, but due to the storm and rescheduling, some of the students were not able to participate at all,” said Davis. “Others were able to compete in some of their usual events, but not all of the ones they normally do.”

The district academic meet is scheduled to be face-to-face on Wednesday, March 24 in Stamford.
