The cast and crew of Albany High School’s One Act Play attended a festival held at Clyde High School on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

OAP director Jenny Scott has announced a public performance of the show at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1 at the Albany High School auditorium.

Scott said earlier this week that local students did a great job performing at the Feb. 10 festival, while also getting valuable feedback from the judges.

“The judges told us what we were doing well and what we needed to improve on prior to district contest,” said Scott. “With our play being commedia dell’arte, the judges wanted to see the students take the characters up a level, so that is one thing we will be working on.”

The play being performed by the AHS thespians, The Love of Oranges, is set in a fairy tale kingdom in the imaginary present.

Scott said she did receive some good news regarding the wearing of masks during the performance.

“As of Monday, the mask rule has been left open to host schools and their COVID-19 guidelines,” Scott said. “Our district contest manager has let us know that we will not be required to perform with masks on, but we will need to have them on at all other times during the competition.”

Scott added that some host sites in other districts are requiring companies to perform with masks, and depending on the policies where advancing contests will be held, schools could perform with no masks in the district competition, but be required to wear masks at the next level of competition.

The district contest is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 at the new performing arts center in Haskell.
