Homecoming 2021 is set for Friday, Oct. 1, with organizers breathing a little easier this year compared to the restrictions last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual homecoming parade is set to roll through downtown at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Albany vs. Olney football game at 7:00 p.m.

Homecoming royalty will be presented at halftime, including the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. Nominees from the senior class were selected by the four high school grade levels last week, along with a Prince and Princess for grades 9-11.

The nominees from the senior class this year for king and queen are Brooks Neece and Avery Kleiner, while the 11th grade selected Luke Ivy and Kamryn Browning. The sophomore class picked Bryce Asher and Ansleigh Garcia as their nominees, and the freshmen named Robert Bailey and Clara Holson.

While the nominees were selected by each grade level, all those named are seniors, with the final determination made by the entire student body in grades 9-12.

Each senior nominee will be escorted onto the field by a parent, with the queen nominees accompanied by their fathers and the king nominees by their mothers.

Each class also chose a prince and princess. Junior honorees are London Fuentes and Mayson Garcia, while the sophomores selected Robert Diaz and Emma Shack. The freshmen class selected Ashton Bailey and Abi Hale to represent their class in the homecoming court.

Three other sets of beaus and sweethearts will also be present, including Football Sweetheart and escort – Lizzy Chavez and Cooper Fairchild. The band and FFA will also select sweethearts and beaus later this week.

The high school will sponsor a parade this year that will include the Ragin’ Red Band, AHS cheerleaders, and the senior nominees, princes and princesses, and the club beaus and sweethearts.

The Lions Club sweetheart will also ride in the parade. All entries for the royalty will use cars or trucks to ride on.

No class floats will be included this year since 2021 is an odd year and not one of the biennial  “big” homecoming years cosponsored by the Albany Ex-Students Association. Consequently, there will not be a Coming Home King or Queen, or honor classes presented at halftime this year.

Ex-students are urged to send in their membership fees of $10 in preparation for the 2022 Home-coming. Dues can be sent to Albany Ex-Students Association, PO Box 2633, Albany, TX 76430.
