Several members of the Albany FFA Chapter competed at the Big Country District’s Leadership Development Events on Monday, Nov. 12 at Cisco College.

Seth Hale made up the Albany entry that placed fourth high team in Job Interview.

The team of Aspen Box, Kamryn Browning, and Susan Cormack placed sixth in Radio Broadcasting.

Alayna Koemel competed in Senior Creed Speaking, earning sixth place for the Albany team.

Albany’s Greenhand Quiz team placed 10th in district. The team members were Aspen Box, Tyler Everitt, Clara Holson, and Luke Ivy.

The local chapter’s Senior Quiz team included Addison Asher, Julia Bowman, Madelyn Connally, and Taylor Scott.

Kelly Manning competed in Greenhand Creed Speaking.

Only the top two winners in each event at district move on to the Area IV LDEs at Mineral Wells High School on Monday, Nov, 19. There are 19 chapters in the Big Country District and a total of 94 in Area IV.

Realignment

Albany was moved from the Oil Belt District to the Big Country District by the Texas FFA.

The state FFA added two new areas last year, from 10 to 12, to try and even up the number of voting delegates per area.

“They wanted to even out the votes per area for things such as talent contests and officer elections,” said FFA advisor Chris Beard.

Several schools in Area IV, including Albany, were moved to new districts over the past year during the realignment.

“At first I didn’t like the thought of the move because we have been active in the Oil Belt District for so long that I have made great friends with the ag teachers, and our kids also have friends in the district,” said Beard. “But I also know all the ag teachers in the Big Country District and they will be great to work with. We won’t have to travel quite as far for LDE contests and the district banquet either.”

Beard added that Albany chapter members already know several kids in the new district.

“They will quickly make even more friends,” Beard said. “The change is new, but we are excited to get going and help out in the Big Country District.”

Moran FFA also moved from the Oil Belt to the Big Country District.

Other chapters in the Big Country District are Cisco, Bangs, and multiple schools from Taylor, Coleman, Runnels, and Callahan counties.
