Teachers and staff at the Moran Independent School District underwent CPR training this week along with other preparations for the start of the school year.

The training was conducted by Deloris Londerholm, part-time school nurse for the district.

“CPR is state mandated,” Moran principal Jo Hise said. “Praise God, we have not had to use it yet.”

Classes begin Monday and the school district has a busy slate of events scheduled for the last few days of summer vacation.

Activities begin at 5:00 p.m. Thursday with the Meet The Bulldogs, followed by Meet the Teachers.

“The high school will be open at 4:00 p.m.,” Hise said. “The registrar, Jeannie Ten Cate, will be in the auditorium for students to start filling out registration paperwork.”

The PTO will provide hamburgers as well as conduct an ice cream contest as part of the evening.

“We want as many people to participate in our ice cream contest as possible,” Hise said. “It’s homemade ice cream, and we’ll have a $25 gift card and a trophy for the winner.”

The new teachers will judge which participant is the winner.

Ice cream will be $1 per serving, Hise said.

At 5:00 p.m. Friday, the school district will introduce new agriculture teacher Minnie Denson at the Moran Events Center.

“We’re going to have hamburgers at that,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said.

Bus Schedule

Hise said buses will run the same as last year with the beginning of classes.

“We’ll a run a Breckenridge bus that will come through Albany,” she said. “The Breckenridge bus will leave at 6:50 a.m. and be in Albany about 7:20 a.m. at Brookshires. The Cisco bus leaves about 7:00 a.m.”

Chalk the Walk

The PTO is hosting Chalk the Walk at 6:00 p.m. Sunday to greet students on the first day of school.

“If somebody wants to come help us put positive comments on the sidewalks around campus for Monday morning,” Hise said, “we’re going to meet Sunday evening to do that.”
