The opening night of the 81st anniversary edition of the Fort Griffin Fandangle is in only three weeks, so organizers and participants are busy preparing for the upcoming performances and the expected out-of town visitors.

Dress rehearsal is set for Thursday, June 20, and the four summer shows will start at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, and June 28-29 at the Prairie Theater just north of town.

The Fandangle Parade will take place in downtown Albany at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.

Rehearsals

“We’ve had some really good rehearsals this last week,” said artistic director Lorna Ayers on Memorial Day. “We switched Tuesday and Thursday schedules due to the baseball playoffs, and that has worked out well. I encourage everyone to obtain an updated schedule from the Fandangle.org website.”

Cast members should note that the practices scheduled for next Tuesday and Thursday, June 4 and June 6 were among those swapped.

Horses and rolling stock join rehearsals beginning Monday, June 3, depending on the scenes scheduled.

Sets will also be included in practices starting next week, so crew members moved props from the boxcar to the new container out at the Fandangle grounds this Tuesday.

The Snake is stored at another location, and will be transported to the Fandangle grounds in the near future, according to director’s assistant Debra Boyett.

Tickets

Tickets to the performances start at $15 for a reserved seat, or $60 for a box of four. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fortgriffinfandangle.org/tickets or by contacting the Fandangle office at 325-762-3838.

“Things are going well,” said office manager Lyn Baker on Tuesday. “We are busy.”

Vendor Discount

The Albany Chamber of Commerce has vendor spots available in downtown Albany during Fandangle, and those who send in a reservation deposit by Saturday, June 1 will receive a discount.

The vendor locations are outdoors and are regularly priced at $275 for all four days of the annual outdoor musical, June 21, 22, 28, and 29. Sites with electricity are $350 for all four days.

The discounted price for reservations secured with a $100 deposit by this Saturday, June 1, are $150 for all four days, or $200 with electricity.

Sites are also available at $75 per day, and vendors can buy two Fandangle tickets to get free electricity to their site.

According to Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones, over 1,000 people are expected each performance day.

Clothing and jewelry items are not allowed unless they are homemade.

Food trucks will be allowed if they are selling only desserts or snow cones.

Food items will only be allowed if they are homemade and already packaged, according to Jones.
