Academic achievement will be recognized during the Albany Junior and Senior High School Academic Banquet on Monday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m.

The annual event is sponsored by Albany ISD, the Feed Store, and the Academic Booster Club.

The theme for the event is “Education is the Most Powerful Weapon to Change the World,” according to organizer Tisha Wilkins.

Ticket sales ended Tuesday for the event, with recognized students being provided a free ticket. All other tickets were $15 each.

The banquet will be held in the main gym at the high school honoring student achievement in a number of academic areas. Included will be one-act play, UIL Academics, ILPC newspaper awards, honor graduates, high ACT and SAT scores, Ag Leadership winners, band awards, and all students who have maintained a 90 or above average in core classes.

The meal of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, a roll, and cookies will be catered by the Icehouse Restaurant.

“We are expecting our biggest crowd ever,” Wilkins said. “Since we included the band this year, the count is over 350 people.”
