Seven Moran High School students were inducted as charter members of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society on Monday, May 9, at the Moran Events Center.

Seniors Hannah Rogers, Harmony Slaughter, and Johnnie Hise, juniors Emily Murk and Alayna Baker, and sophomores Caleb York and Terra Thompson were honored at the ceremony.

Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said the chapter is looking toward several projects next year, but members still have time to provide service before the current school year ends.

“We have some trips planned with younger kids, and we’ve asked the NHS members to help us watch them,” Denson said.

Denson said the ceremony drew a larger-than-expected turnout.

“We had about twice as many people show up as I expected,” he said. “Our school board and all the kids’ parents showed up. I had to keep bringing out chairs.”

Field Trip

Moran fourth through sixth grade students will visit the Fort Worth Zoo on Thursday, May 19.

“We’ve got a special animal encounter reserved and the zoo folks will bring out about three animals for them to interact with,” Denson said. “One kid is hoping to pet a rhino.”

Drivers Ed

Denson said Moran has arranged to conduct an on-campus drivers education course next school year.

“It’ll be live, in-person, old-school drivers ed,” he said. “We’ll start it in the fall. Students will have a scheduled part of their day to do the classroom portion, and they’ll also do the driving part at school. We’ll provide the car.”

Students must meet age requirements and pay a fee, which is to be determined.

“The fee is mainly to cover the car rental,” Denson said. “It looks like it will cheaper than doing an online course.”

New Sports

Denson said Moran is adding power lifting and golf to its athletic program for next school year.

Tristen Johnson will coach power lifting, and Denson will coach golf.
