Beverly Rogers, with help from friends and the Albany Chamber of Commerce, held “Give Alzheimer’s the Boot” last Saturday, Sept. 27 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in connection with the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s usually held in Abilene.

Rogers raised $5,531 this year for a grand total of $85,000 over the past 18 years.

“I never dreamed it would be this successful with the pandemic going on,” Rogers reported.

She said she and Randy Hayes manned the boot along with Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones, while participants drove the drag making stops in the Chamber parking lot to put money into a work boot.

“I appreciate Mary Beth Jones so much and all her energy in helping make this a great event,” Rogers said. “The boot idea was great and unique to Albany.”

Rogers added that because of the efforts made to raise funds over the past 18 years, she has been named a member of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Champions Club, and she recently received a yard sign and a medal.

Rogers also said that a call came last week from the assistant director of the North Central Texas Alzheimer’s Association thanking her for all she has done for Alzheimer’s.

“I am touched that he made time in his day to call me,” Rogers concluded.
