Shackelford County 4-H will be slowing down for a bit this month, but not coming to a complete stop.

Local 4-Hers will take advantage of early-release days from school on Dec. 15-17 to conduct their next service projects.

“We’re trying to keep it pretty quiet this month just with it being December and super busy for everyone,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “Those afternoons, we will be raking leaves and disposing of them for people. We’ll also be delivering Resource Care’s Christmas gifts to the recipients on their list and singing Christmas carols.”

Bell said the club will try to squeeze in its monthly meeting on Dec. 15 before starting work.

The project follows the club’s participation in the Writing to Heal letter writing campaign, which sent letters to residents of area nursing homes.

“We partnered with ResourceCare and those letters went out with Vittles by Vehicle,” Bell said. “For the rest of the year, the kids will be doing that on their own. I’ve sent them a list of nursing homes, but they’re welcome to send a letter to anyone.”
