Six of eight Shackelford County 4-H members came away with ribbons for placing at the District 7 Food Show, held Nov. 17 at the Expo Center in Abilene.

“They all did a great job,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said, “and it was the first time to compete for the two who did not place.”

In the exhibit portion of the competition, Kamryn Graham placed second, with Tara Cauble third, and Charli Trail fourth.

“It’s really quite an undertaking with a 3-5 minute speech and answering interview questions before adults,” Bell said.

In the Junior age group, Carly Kreitler was third in appetizers, Truitt Burton was third in main dish and Gage Burton was second in healthy dessert.

In the Intermediate age group, Brook Green brought home a fifth place in appetizers, and Trail was third in main dish.

Also competing were Cayla Green in Intermediate healthy dessert and Kimberly Howe in Junior side dish.

Christmas Parade

Shackelford County 4-Hers will have a float in the Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Club members are to report to the courthouse parking lot at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the parade to decorate the float.

“We are looking for light string donations if somebody has some they want to part with,” Bell said.

Sheep & Goat Clinic

A sheep and goat clinic will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the County Show Barn.

“It’s open to everybody, 4-H or FFA,” Bell said. “We have a 4-H specialist, Maggie Louton, coming from Abilene.”

Bell said participants are encouraged to bring their animals.

“If they can’t, it would still benefit them if they could come and listen.”

Bell said transportation can be arranged for those who need it.

“I know that the 4:00 time may be hard for some parents,” she said.

Service Projects

Bell said two service projects are scheduled for Dec. 15-16 with the possibility they could extend to Dec. 17.

“We will be raking leaves and disposing of them for community members who need help with that,” she said. “We’ll also be delivering Resource Care’s Christmas gifts. It will be a busy couple of days.”
