Students who are a part of 4-H have attended camps and other events throughout the summer.

“Several kids attended a variety of camps throughout June and July,” volunteer leader Kristie Smith said.

Students from Albany attended three camps in July, the first of which was a fishing camp that students attended June 16-18.

The second was the Outdoor Adventure Camp from July 7 through July 9.

According to Smith, children who attended this camp did multiple water sports, survival activities, and other outdoor sports such as axe throwing.

The third camp, called Prime Time, was on July 14-17.

Several Albany girls attended this camp.

Contests

On July 13, students from Shackelford County went to Brady Middle School to participate in the 4-H Fashion Show contest.

According to leader Jo Hise, students who traveled to Brady participated in several contests, and many students placed.

Categories students competed in include construction, storyboard, and non-apparel.

Students had to either construct a fashion item or create a storyboard of ideas.

Places include: Ellis Hise – third non-apparel stuffed zebra, James Hise – first non-apparel pillow, Artie Bell – second non-apparel apron, Emmaline Hise – first fashion contest and fifth natural fiber cotton contest.

Johnnie Hise helped oversee the event.

“Johnnie is one of the ambassadors for the Fashion and Interior Design program,” Hise said. “She helped lead the sewing event and gave out medals to contestants.”
