Shackelford County 4-H is hitting the ground running in 2023 with preparations for the upcoming county livestock show being given high priority.

Steer Weigh-in

Final weigh-in for the county show’s new commercial steer class will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 at Watt Casey’s pens.

“This will give us the steers’ final weights so the kids can put together their record books and get those turned in,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “We’re wrapping it up.”

Record books are due to Bell on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

January Meeting

The 4-Hers will hold their monthly meeting at 3:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 at The Feed Store before conducting cleanup work at the county show barn.

“We are going straight from the meeting to the show barn to do our part of the cleanup,” Bell said.

Horse Club

The Horse Club kicks off activities for the new year on Friday, Jan. 6, with a horse judging clinic in the morning and a trail ride in the afternoon at Bell’s residence.

Sewing Club

The Sewing Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 at Friendship Baptist Church.
