Shackelford County 4-H’s Summer STEAM program took this week off in observance of the Fourth of July holiday, but starts another five-week stretch next week.

The program will resume a 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at The Feed Store.

“The next two sessions will both be technology days because we had to swap some things around in June,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “One will be led by Matt Howard and the other by Eric Johnson. “I think Eric will doing some engineering, like taking apart a radiator and putting it back together.”

Bell said the program enjoyed good attendance for its first five sessions.

“I don’t think we ever had less than 20 kids,” she said. “They seem to really enjoy it with the different topics every time. It’s been a good program.”

Rest of July

Other than STEAM sessions on July 13, 20, and 27, the rest of the month has a very light schedule for the 4-H club.

A handful of 4-Hers have submitted record books to the District 7 contest. Bell will take part in the judging on Tuesday, July 18.

“I’ll be judging categories in which we don’t have any entries,” she said. “The kids don’t go to the contest.”

Bell said things will pick up in August.

“We’ll start ordering livestock tags and a few other things,” she said. “But for the rest of July, we’ll lay low.”
