The Shackelford County 4-H horse program will have its first horse clinic on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m., after rescheduling last week’s Oct. 1 clinic.

The clinic will be held at the county show barn.

Shackelford County extension agent Kloey Painter said the clinic will be a great overall introduction to horses.

“We will go over horse safety and provide smores for everyone during the event,” Painter explained.

Topics for upcoming clinics include showing how a horse gets its teeth floated, what a farrier does, and demonstrations of goat tying and roping. Also, a veterinarian will come for an anatomy and proper care clinic.

Painter reported that D. Edmison in Moran has donated three colts to the 4-H club for kids to raise, halter break, and eventually ride.

“One colt is still available,” Painter said. “Rylon Jordan took two that he plans to break for roping in order to compete in the junior rodeo.”

All three of the donated yearlings are quarter horses.

“This is an incredible once in a lifetime project,”  Painter added. “I cannot believe Mr. Edmison’s  generosity.”
