Incoming Shackelford 4-H officers got a look at local government in action Monday, Aug. 14 by attending a meeting of Shackelford County Commissioners Court.

Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said it was a great experience for the group.

Following the meeting, the 4-Hers convened at The Feed Store to begin preparing for the upcoming 4-H year, which begins Sept. 1.

“The kids were an excellent audience for commissioners court and came prepared with ideas for how to improve our program moving forward,” Bell said. “They wrote individual, small group, and whole club goals, and we discussed how to turn them into reality. Then we mapped out our 4-H year and assigned service project leaders.”

Banquet Time

The final summer event for the club is the banquet at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20 at the Whitney Theatre.

The event is open to the public with tickets costing $5 each.

“I want everyone to know that all are welcome and invited to come watch the kids be recognized,” Bell said. “The officers will all give speeches on their 4-H experience, and adult leaders will recognize pro-ject completions from each of their groups.”

Bell said the event will be a dessert bar with club members invited to bring items.
