Ground preparation for the foundation of the new Albany Scout Hut is almost completed, and the metal is paid for, but the future of the $95,000 building project is not yet secure.

Local Scouts need help to raise another $3,800 before Sept. 1 in order to be awarded funds of $15,000 each from two pledged matching grants.

The Scouts’ building fund has been built up over the years to $33,000. Recent donations have added another $28,200, leaving the Scouts still $33,800 short of the $95,000 goal. However, once another $3,800 is raised, the $30,000 in challenge grants will be awarded, completing the fundraising effort.

“Compared to what has already been raised, just a small fraction is still needed, but the deadline is only a few weeks away,” said Scout committee chair Teri Lucas.
