34 to graduate Friday night

Thirty-four Albany High School seniors are slated to walk across the stage in the AHS main gym Friday night, May 27 to receive their diplomas, join in the singing of the Alma Mater, and toss their mortar boards in the air marking the end of their high school careers.

Commencement exercises are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the main gym, with a reception following at the Whitney Theatre downtown.

Following the class marching in and the playing of the National Anthem, the ceremony will open with class president Luke Ivy giving the invocation.

Secondary principal Glen Hill will introduce the class salutatorian Sarah Cotter and valedictorian Luke Ivy, who will both deliver addresses to the crowd attending.

Counselor Michaela Bradford will follow by recognizing the top 25 percent honor students and announcing scholarship recipients.

A slide show presentation will follow the awarding of scholarships.

The class will then be presented by Hill, followed by superintendent Jonathan Scott confirming the scholarships.

Diplomas will be awarded to each graduate by Hill, assisted by school board trustees Ginny Ivy and Kim Neece Fuentes.

Class vice president Sarah Cotter will give the benediction, followed by the singing of the Alma Mater led by the senior cheerleaders.

Scholarship Program

Organizations, individuals and foundations are awarding well over 100 scholarships representing 43 separate funds, totaling $123,250.

The total does not include scholarships provided by colleges and universities, as well as several local organizations, to members of the class.

Honor Students

Luke Ivy is the valedictorian of the class with a grade average of 99.586. He is the son of Ginny and Paul Ivy and will attend Rice University.

The salutatorian is Sarah Cotter, daughter of Darla and Mike Cotter. She was a grade average of 96.857 and will be attending Texas A&M.

The honor graduates of the class are Clara Holson, Brooks Neece, Tyler Everitt, Susie Cormack, Ryan Mark, and Allison Lemond.

Class Stats

The class has chosen crimson and white as the class colors, and the lotus is the class flower.

The motto for the class is “Time to turn our dreams into reality,” and the class song is “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz.

Class officers, in addition to Ivy as president and Cotter as vice president, include Kamryn Browning – secretary; Susie Cormack – reporter, Brooks Neece – treasurer, and Avery Kleiner – parliamentarian.

Ushers include London Fuentes – head, Cole Chapman, Coy Lefevre, Presley Green – head, Ella Webb, and Gracie Price.

The reception following the ceremony at the Whitney Theatre is hosted by the junior ushers and their parents.

After the reception, the new graduates will check into the Feed Store by 10:30 p.m. for Project Graduation.
