32 Albany graduates to receive diplomas Friday

Thirty-two Albany High School seniors are slated to walk across the stage in the AHS main gym Friday night, May 26 to receive their diplomas, marking the end of their high school careers.

A total of $129,750 in local scholarships will be awarded to members of the class who submitted applications and plan to further their educations.

Commencement exercises are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the main gym, with a reception following at the Whitney Theatre downtown.

Following the class marching in and the playing of the National Anthem, the ceremony will open with class president Presley Green giving the invocation.

Secondary principal Glen Hill will introduce the class salutatorian Presley Green and valedictorian Ella Webb, who will both deliver addresses to fellow classmates and others attending.

Counselor Brittney Harmon will then present the top 25 percent honor students, followed by announcing the scholarships.

A slide show presentation will follow the awarding of scholarships.

The class will then be presented by Hill, followed by superintendent Jonathan Scott confirming the graduates.

Diplomas will be presented to each graduate by school board trustees Kalico Leech and Kim Neece Fuentes.

Class vice president Leddie Leech will give the benediction, followed by the singing of the Alma Mater led by the senior cheerleaders.

Scholarship Program

Organizations, individuals and foundations are awarding well over 100 scholarships representing over 40 separate funds, totaling $129,750.

The total does not include scholarships provided by colleges and universities to members of the class or those given at other events.

Honor Students

Ella Webb is the valedictorian of the class with a grade average of 97.105. She is the son of Glen and Misti Webb and will attend Texas Tech University.

The salutatorian is Presley Green, daughter of Jessi Green, and Jake and Brandi Green, all of Albany. She has a grade average of 96.53 and will be attending Texas A&M.

The other honor graduates of the class are Gracie Price, Cole Chapman, Ashley Richards, Haily Cox, Mayson Garcia, and Leddie Leech.

Class Stats

The class has chosen red and white as the class colors, and the tulip is the class flower.

The motto for the class is “Class of Champions,” and the class song is “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue.

Class officers in addition to Green as president and Leech as vice president, include Gracie Price, secretary; Briley Tabor, reporter; Ashley Richards, treasurer; and Cole Chapman, parliamentarian.

Class sponsors are Rick Davis, Rod Britting, Ashley Terrell, and Denney Faith.

Ushers are Adam Hill, head; Cason Fairchild and Wyatt Windham. Also, Robyn Trail, head; Robin Lucas and Kiana Roberson.

The reception following the ceremony at the Whitney Theatre is hosted by the junior ushers and their parents.

After the reception, the new graduates will check into the front entrance to the high school between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. for Project Graduation.

The doors will be locked at 10:30 p.m.
