The first week of the month long filing period for local board elections ended yesterday, and a total of five candidates have already filed for spots on the May 4 ballot. 

There is not a fee to run for the local offices, but prospective candidates must file by 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 15 to have their names listed on the ballot.

Albany City Council

Joe Tidwell and Carolyn Waller hold the two at large city council seats that are up for election in 2019. The office of mayor, currently held by Rodney Alexander, will also be up for vote this election cycle.

Council members serve two-year terms, as does the mayor. As of Tuesday, Jan. 22, no one had filed for the positions.

Applications for city council and for the mayor’s office are available at the Albany City Hall. Those with questions can call Becky Wiloth at 325-762-3133.

Albany ISD 

Kelly Head has filed for re-election to Place 5 on the Albany school board and Joe Tidwell has filed for Place 6, the seat currently held by Pam Davis.

Both Mike Bean and Dinty Bowman have filed for Place 7, currently filled by school board president Betsy Parsons.

Parsons and Davis have both stated that they will not run for re-election.

The trustees serve for three-year terms and three seats will be determined this election. Applications are available at the superintendent’s office.

Hospital Board

Shackelford County Hospital Board seats currently held by Leslie Belcher, Jo Ann Estridge, and Mike Bean are expiring this year.

The three seats are each for a two-year, at-large position. Candidates for the hospital board must have their applications signed by 10 registered Shackelford County voters.

According to Regina Whitt at the district office, no one has picked up a packet so far. Election information and applications are available at the district office at 840 Gregg Street.

Moran City Council

Incumbent Steve Taggart has filed for the office of Moran mayor, according to Jackie Wallace at City Hall.

The two at-large seats currently held by Lisa McFerrin and Stanley Reeves are also up for vote this year. 

The office of mayor and the city council seats are all for two-year terms. Applications are available at Moran City Hall.

Moran ISD 

Trustees on the Moran school board serve three-year terms, and two at-large positions currently held by Sam Snyder and Alice Branham will be filled this May.

As of Tuesday, no one had filed for the trustee positions. Packets for the positions are available in the MISD superintendent’s office during school hours.
