Homecoming 2020, scheduled for this Friday, Oct. 2 has been postponed and will take place Friday, Oct. 16 when the Albany Lions take on the Ranger Bulldogs.

Albany Junior/Senior High School principal Glen Hill said with the spike in COVID-19 cases, the district did not think it was a good idea to bring everyone together in the setting that homecoming produces.

In addition, Hill explained that with the number of students in quarantine, many of the homecoming candidates would not be available to participate this week.

Albany Independent School District super-intendent Jonathan Scott said the homecoming festivities this year will include the game and halftime program with the homecoming court only.

Street Painting

Albany Athletic Booster Club secretary Tisha Wilkins said the traditional street painting will still take place but on Sunday, Oct. 11.

All athletes and parents, and community volunteers are welcome to meet at the high school at 2:00 p.m. to hang streamers around town.

Wilkins explained that at 5:00 p.m. the volleyball players, cheerleaders and their parents will meet at the high school to begin painting.

“The volleyball players will start in front of gym and the cheerleaders will paint high school hill,” Wilkins added.

At 6:00 p.m., football players and parents will begin painting at the field house parking and lot and then move to Main Street.

“If Main Street is not available, there will be an alternate location,” Wilkins said.

She emphasized that parents are needed to help, especially to help mix paint.

The Booster Club is providing most supplies, but the roller cover is needed.

Wilkins said the thicker the nap of the roller cover, the better it sticks to the concrete.

Volunteers will be needed again on Sunday, Oct. 17 to remove all the streamers that were put up on the previous Sunday.
