2020-2021 budget being finalized

Shackelford County commissioners and other elected officials met Monday, Aug. 24 to go through several routine agenda items, including the approval of a long list of minutes from previous sessions.
At the end of the meeting, the court continued to work on the budget for the news fiscal year that starts Sept. 1. There was no action, as they intend to make some more adjustments at a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 31 before proposing the budget and tax rate.
Other Business
•Precinct 4 commissioner Cody Jordan reported that he had received a certified letter concerning a county road that crosses property owned by Hank and Ted Paup, with complaints listed about a culvert, the roadway, and barrow ditches. Jordan said that he had responded to the grievances.
•A $279,978 lease contract from Warren Cat for a maintainer for precinct 4 was approved.
•The county-wide burn ban was left in place, and commissioners requested that controlled burns be postponed until fall.
•The July treasurer’s report was approved.
