There are only a little over two weeks left in the  filing period for local board elections, and as of press time on Tuesday, a total of eight candidates had turned in their paperwork for various positions that will be decided on May 1.

Albany City Council

All incumbents currently serving on the Albany City Council have filed for re-election including Mayor Susan Montgomery and council members Don Taggart, Austin Sherwood, and Lynsi Musselman.

There is not a fee to run for the local offices, but prospective candidates must file by 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 12 to have their names listed on the ballot.

Applications for city council and for the mayors office are available at the Albany City Hall. Those with questions can call the city secretary’s office at 325-762-3133.

Albany ISD Board

Incumbents Dr. Cory Brown and Kalico Leech have reapplied for their respective seats on the Albany school board.

Candidates for the Albany school board must live within the boundaries of the school district and must file for a specific seat, with each seat serving a three-year term.

Applications are available at the superintendent’s office at the secondary school campus.

Hospital Board

The Shackelford County Hospital Board seats currently held by Mike Folsom, Jo Ann Estridge, and Leslie Belcher will expire.

According to Regina Whitt at the district office, no applications had been received as of press time on Tuesday.

Candidates for the hospital board must have their applications signed by 10 registered Shackelford County voters.

Whitt recommends that all applicants should obtain at least 12 signatures, in case one or two of the signers are not on the current list of registered voters.

Election information and applications are available from Whitt at the district office at 840 Gregg Street.

Moran City Council

The Moran city council will fill two city council seats, as well as the mayor’s position on the upcoming ballot.

The council seats currently held by Mayor Steven Taggart and council members Cindy Hogan and Christal Herrell will expire.

No one had filed for either of the two Moran councilman positions as of press time on Tuesday, however, one packet had been picked up but not yet returned.

The seats on the city council are all for two-year terms.

Applications are available at Moran City Hall and questions may be directed to city secretary Teresa King at 325-945-3441.

Moran ISD Board

Trustees on the Moran school board serve three-year terms, and the three at-large positions currently held by Sug Roller, Russell Holland and Lynda Stockton are up for election.

Moran ISD superintendent Danny Freeman reported that all three incumbents have picked up packets with both Roller and Stockton having returned their packets.

Candidates must live within the school district’s boundaries to be eligible to serve on the Moran ISD school board.

Packets for the positions are available in the superintendent’s office during school hours.

Fort Griffin SUD

Two of the three-year terms on the local special utilities district board will expire this year.

The positions currently held by Sam Snyder, Place 6 and Burrell McKelvain, Place 7 are up for election.

No applications for the two positions had been received as of press time on Tuesday.
