With just over a week remaining in the filing period for several local May 4 elections, two more incumbents signed up this week for reelection to their terms on various boards.

Lynda Stockton filed for a term on the Moran ISD board of trustees, and Sam Snyder turned in paperwork foranotherthree-year terms on the Fort Griffin SUD board.

Filing Deadline

The month-long filing period opened Jan. 17, with the deadline set for Friday, Feb. 16.

If races for any of the entities end up unopposed, that entity can cancel the election.

As of press time on Tuesday, there were still vacancies on several of the boards and councils,

Albany ISD Board

Previous to this last week,incumbentBoBrown andchallengerReggySpencer both signed up for the Place 3 seat on the Albany ISD board of trustees.

Kalico Leech is unopposed so far for the Place 4 seat.

Moran School Board

In addition to Stockton’s seat, two other threeyear terms on the Moran ISD board are ending this spring, subject to re-election, although one of those is currently vacant.

The other incumbent is Sug Roller.

Fort Griffin SUD

Snyder currently holds one of the two three-year terms on the Fort Griffin Special Utilities District board will expire this year.

Burrell McKelvain serves in the other at-large positions.

Hospital Board

James Breeden is the sole candidate so far for the Shackelford County Hospital District Board of Directorselection,although fellow incumbents Jason Price and Maggie Viertel have picked up paperwork to apply.

Breeden will run for one of four full two-year terms that are expiring this year. There is also an unexpired one-year term.

Terms expiring this spring are those held by Myra Hise, David Henry, Price, and Breeden, as well as Viertel’s one-year term.

Hospital board candidates must have their application petitionssignedby 10 registered Shackelford countyvotersinordertofile.

“We usually recommend getting extra signatures in case someone isn’t a currently registered voter,” Whitt said.

Albany City Council

Filing for reelection to seats on the Albany city council are incumbents Chris Beard and Austin Sherwood.

The third seat on the council that expires this year is held by longtime councilman Lester Galbreath, who had not filed at press time.

Each of the positions is for a two-year term of office.

Applications are available at Albany City Hall.

Thetopthreecandidates receiving the most votes will win the positions in the at-large election.

Moran City Council

The Moran city council will fill three at-large positions for two-year terms on the council this spring. No one had filed as of Tuesday.

The seats are currently occupied by Dora Cook Leonard, Kimberly York, and Gene Thompkins.
