2 Moran students inducted in honor society

Moran High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society inducted two new members Monday, April 29 at Moran Events Center.

Senior Danny O’Keefe and sophomore Jayla Bussell received their pins in a brief ceremony.

“We inducted the two new ones and recognized the five seniors,” Moran principal Jo Hise said.

Otherseniorsrecognized were Caleb York, Tyler Hale,TerraThompson,and Nevaeh Huskey.

Meat Judging

Moran FFA’s meat judging teamofYork,RayniVinson, Cotten Campbell, and Ellis Hise placed 49th out of 60 teams Saturday,April 27 at the state contest held at Texas A&M’s Rosenthal Meat Science and Technology Center.

“We’re very proud to make the top 50 out all the schools in Texas,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “Everybody’s scores are lower than they were at area, but this was their first time to beat Texas A&M, and their first time at state. I’m sure they were pretty nervous.”

Denson said scoring in the state contest was extremely close, especially at the top of the list.

“If you look at the top 10, there were just fractions of points between them,” he said. “The scores were very tight. You had to be perfect in order to win.”

Getting Signed

York and Zech Henderson signed scholarship agreements with Texas State Technical College in a ceremony Wednesday, April 24 in the auditorium.

York will attend the Sweetwater campus to study diesel mechanics. Henderson will attend the Breckenridge campus to study welding.

Henderson Willbegin his course a week after graduating later this month.

“Zech has shown an interest in attending TSTC for their welding program,” Moran teacher Robert Stanley said. “He will complete the certification program by December, and he plans to enter the workforce.”

York Will Wait Until Fall To begin a 24-month program.

“After he has completed his training, he has hopes of owning his own diesel mechanic service at some point,” Stanley said.

On Monday, students attended an open house at TSTC Breckenridge.

“The students were invited to come experience their welding program,” Stanley said. “They got to complete a college level welding assignment.”

York, Henderson, Vinson, Max Oliver, and Kielar Car Attended The Program.

“Each Student Attending earned a $500 scholarship,” Stanley said. “This benefits both Zech and Caleb immediately since they will be starting school soon.”

UIL Academics

Thompson and O’Keefe did not advance Saturday at the II-1A UIL Academic meet in San Angelo.

Both competed in Computer Applications.

Ellis Hise qualified in Ready Writing, but opted to attend the state meat judging contest.

O’Keefe and Thompson are the final Moran qualifiers in the event, which is being discontinued.

FFA Meeting

Moran FFA will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 6 in the school auditorium.

Anyone interested in FFA next year is encouraged to attend.
