2 Albany Stars to be named tonight
By Donnie A. Lucas
Two Albany residents will be honored tonight at the biennial Albany Stars event set to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Aztec Theater.
There is no charge to attend the event, which will include hors d’oeurvres and water in the meeting room and on the patio after the awards are presented.
“Everyone is welcome to attend,” said Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones. “You don’t have to be a Chamber member to come help us celebrate our Albany Stars.”
The Chamber accepted nominations from the public, with a committee looking through the suggestions.
“Our focus this year was looking for folks with deep roots and big hearts,” she said. “Normally, we will have one business person and one individual, but these two people qualify both ways. They have touched the lives of everyone in one way or another with their service to the community.”
Jones said that the committee had a number of nominations to consider.
The recipients will be given a special timepiece with the slogan for the Chamber engraved on the back – “The Whisper of History Over the Noise of Time.”
This is the second Albany Stars award program, which was first offered in 2020 and will continue as a biennial event.
Crawfish Boil
The Chamber is also hosting a Membership Appreciation Crawfish Boil on Thursday, April 7 in the Chamber parking lot.
All members are invited to attend without charge.
“People need to come get a membership and join us,” Jones said. “You can come by the office, or just show up that night and buy a membership.”
