18 participate in Chamber garage sales
By Sam Waller
A total of 18 participants took part in the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s community garage sale Saturday, Sept. 9.
Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said the event went well.
“I reprinted maps a couple of times Saturday morning,” Lehew said. “It was very busy. I drove around and looked at the sales, and there were a lot of cars at the sale locations.”
Lehew, who organized the event for the first time, said she foresees no changes to the format moving forward.
“What’s been done is working well, I think,” she said. “I think the heat had a lot to do with not as many taking part this year. I had a lot of people say it was too hot to get into a shed or barn to start cleaning things out.”
Still, Lehew said, this year’s number was close to past years.
“Everybody enjoyed it,” she said. “I enjoyed getting to talk to people who came by to get maps. They were very friendly and excited to go garage-saling.
Fall Decorations
The Chamber is seeking volunteers to assist with putting up fall decorations on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Chamber annually puts up decorations in advance of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“If we don’t get finished on the 30th, we’ll finish Oct. 1,” Lehew said.
Students from Albany High School’s FCCLA class will assist with the project.
Christmas Parade
The Chamber is also looking to get a jump on planning for the Christmas Parade, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 25.
“People can start thinking about their float for the Lighted Christmas Parade,” Lehew said. “Any Christmas theme they want is welcome. We want to make it a really good parade.”
Lehew said registration will be conducted online the same as for the Fandangle Parade.
