A Monday, Nov. 21 deadline has been set for the Nov. 24 edition of The Albany News due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

All news articles and advertising, including classified ads, must be received no later than 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21.

The usual copy deadline for the weekly paper is Tuesday at 12:00 noon. It is being moved up a day in order to adjust the printing and mailing schedule.

“The timetable for mailing is actually what is driving our schedule,” said Melinda Lucas, News editor. “Because the post office is going to be closed on Thursday, we need to be able to mail on Wednesday, so we have to back the printing up to Tuesday night.”

The Monday morning deadline will not give the staff much time to produce the paper before uploading the files, so Lucas stressed that the deadline is firm.

The newspaper is normally mailed out on Thursday morning, but it will be taken to the post office on Wednesday morning, Nov. 23 for postal employees to place in local boxes before leaving for the holiday.

Subscribers with post office boxes and those on the Albany routes will have their papers on Wednesday. The online edition will also be available a day early.

Rack copies of the newspaper will be delivered on Wednesday morning at the usual locations.

Customers on the Moran route will get their newspapers on Friday.

The News office will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and then be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24-25.
