Leveridge earns top-three finish at Hawley

By Sam Waller

Albany’s Myleigh Leveridge placed third individually Monday, March 17 at the Hawley tournament, shooting 118 at Hawley Golf Club, while the Lions second boys team made improvement.

The first boys team played Wednesday, March 19 at the Jim Ned tournament at Shady Oaks Golf Course, site of the District 10-2A tournament. Albany will play Monday-Tuesday, March 24-25.  The girls division plays Monday with the boys on Tuesday.

The district tournament is scheduled for Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1.

At Hawley, Leveridge posted her best career finish, following up her career-low score from the previous week. She now has back-to-back rounds under 120.

The Lions second team shot 411, knocking off more than 20 strokes from its last outing. Landon Balliew led the team at 97, followed by Dylan Paxton at 102, Hollis Yeates at 103 and Casey Estridge at 109. Jacob Knight completed the lineup with a 113.

Playing as medalists, Braeten Street shot 113 and Ryan Turner shot 116.

With the first team playing Wednesday, it marks the first time this season all 12 players in the boys program have competed in the same week.

“My intention with that schedule was the first five need to play Shady Oaks as much as they can and also play some good competition,” coach Tate Thompson said. “There will be some bigger schools since Jim Ned’s hosting.”
