Athletes, fans invited to Ice Cream Supper

Everyone is invited to come out to the Bank Park the evening of Monday, Aug. 13 and meet the players, coaches, and cheerleaders that will represent Albany High during the fall sports season and for a few dollars they can also enjoy a freshly cooked hamburger meal and desert.

Albany Athletic Booster Club’s Ice Cream Supper also gives club members a chance to connect with other fans and encourage them to join the Boosters, sign up team parents, and market items from the Spirit Shop.

Ice Cream Supper

The hamburger meal costs $7 a plate for the general public, and is served at no charge to members of the Lion and Lady Lion varsity and junior varsity teams.

“We will start serving the food at about 7:00 p.m., and the program will start at 7:30 p.m.,” said club president Mindy Ary. “The meal is free for high school athletes and coaches.”

Cheerleaders will provide homemade ice cream for desert.

The Albany Lion varsity and JV football teams, cheerleaders, mascot, the Lady Lion volleyball players, and cross country teams will be introduced at the event.

Cheers and dance routines will be performed by girls who attended the 2018 Cheer Camp.

“T-shirts will be sold, as well as the athletes’ T-shirts for $5, and the varsity A’s, also $5,” said Ary. “Although we will have additional items in the Spirit Shop by the time the first football game takes place, right now all we have are T-shirts.”

Booster Activities

The Booster Club welcomes all fans of Albany sports to join.

“We invite and encourage all junior high and high school parents, from all sports,” said Ary.

The club sponsors the annual Ice Cream Supper, sells souvenir items at home football games, decorates the locker rooms, lockers, and team buses, supports the teams, and hosts the athletic banquet in May.

The members also sell ads in the football program as a fundraiser, and at last Monday’s meeting, they decided to extend the deadline for purchasing an ad in the 2018 program until Monday, Aug. 6.

To purchase an ad, contact Ary or any Booster Club member.

Team Parents

Two club members are asked to sign up as team parents for each sports team, both high school and junior high.

“We still need team parents for several of the sports,” said Ary. “We will have signup sheets available at the Ice Cream Supper, or you can call me.”

Ary can be reached at 325-762-2447, ext. 112, or by email at mindyary@resourcecare.org.

Team parents coordinate spirit building activities like decorating lockers and team buses on game days, organizing snacks for teams on road trips, and trimming team tables at the athletic banquet.
