UIL team claims three titles, sends 10 to regionals

Ten out of 17 Albany High students are advancing to the Region II Academic Meet on April 25-26 after placing in the top three at the District 10-2A Academic Meet in Anson last Wednesday.
Albany finished the district competition in fifth place out of seven schools, primarily because of the low participation numbers.
“Of the 17 students we took, we had 14 who came home with a total of 31 awards,” high school UIL coordinator Rick Davis said. “That’s 88% of our students who placed, and 63% of them are advancing to regionals. All of our students did a great job of representing Albany!”
Students placing in the top three places individually, as well as first place teams, advance to the Region 2 Academic Meet.
While they do not compete as a team, local journalism students won that team title, bringing home the journalism team trophy and contributing to the overall point tally.
Albany also won team titles for computer science and current issues and events.
Senior Jonathan Coody aced the science competition, winning first place and placing as top student in all three areas – top biology, top chemistry, and top physics.
Advancing in multiple events are senior Avery Everitt in three contests and freshman Charli Trail in four events.
The Region 2-2A meet is set for April 25-26 at Grayson College in Denison. Journalism and computer science will compete on Friday, with current events and science on Saturday.
“Even with only 10 students, we will have three groups traveling separately because of other obligations,” Davis said.
Students placing in the top three or those on the top team at regionals will advance to the State UIL Meet in Austin on May 19-21.
Individual and team results at the district meet are as follows:
