TxDOT resumes maintenance on US 180 bridge following emergency repairs
Drivers traveling across the US 180 bridge over Hubbard Creek Reservoir should prepare for nightly lane closures as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) resumes maintenance work on the structure. Beginning Sunday, February 9, crews continued cleaning and sealing bridge joints, a project that started last year.
This maintenance comes after the bridge experienced significant structural issues in late 2023, which led to its emergency closure on December 22. The closure was prompted by reports of debris falling from underneath the west end of the bridge, triggering an emergency inspection and a disaster declaration by Stephens County. TxDOT quickly initiated repairs, including work through the holiday season to address damage to at least one of the concrete support beams. The bridge was reopened on January 7, 2024, after engineers confirmed that the repairs met safety specifications.
The current maintenance work will take place Sunday through Thursday from approximately 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for about three weeks. During these hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane, and temporary traffic control measures will be in place to guide motorists safely through the area.
TxDOT urges drivers to exercise caution and patience when traveling near the work zone. Motorists are advised to watch for workers and equipment, avoid distractions, and adjust their driving to the conditions.
