Stage set for ‘Rumors’ as ticket sales climb

By David H. Waller

The Albany Mainstreet Playhouse (AMP) is putting the final touches on its production of Neil Simon’s Rumors, set to take the stage February 28, March 1, and March 2 at the Aztec Theater. With stage construction complete and props in place, the cast and crew are ready to bring this fast-paced comedy to life.

Directed by Lorna Ayers, who has led nearly 50 productions with AMP since 1999, this year’s Rumors features a mix of returning talent and fresh faces. Andre Raymond and Jeff Davis are back, taking on new roles in the production, while Nickie Leveridge, Sydney Key, Colin Read, and Ryan Smith make their AMP debuts. Rounding out the cast are Kolby Tinkle, Ragan Riley, and Keren Liming, who have all been hard at work perfecting the timing and delivery that make Simon’s script shine.

Ticket sales have been strong so far. AMP encourages theatergoers to secure their seats in advance, but note that they will also be available at the door. This season also marks the first time AMP has offered sponsorship packages that include season tickets, making it more convenient than ever for sponsors to attend each production using prepaid tickets.

Originally premiering in 1988, Rumors remains one of Simon’s most celebrated plays, known for its hilarious misunderstandings and razor-sharp dialogue. AMP has a long history of performing Simon’s work, with past productions including Barefoot in the Park, God’s Favorite, and The Odd Couple—all audience favorites in Albany.

Tickets for Rumors are available online at albanyplayhouse.com/shows, with limited seating at the door for those who prefer last-minute plans. Both cash and credit card payments will be accepted at the venue.
