New exhibits, events fill OJAC’s spring lineup
By Melinda L. Lucas
The Old Jail Art Center’s spring exhibitions will open this weekend with a preview for members and guests on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The come-and-go event is set for 3:00-6:00 p.m. with curators and artist remarks at 4:30 p.m.
A Fine Line: Drawings and Funhouse are both curated from the OJAC’s permanent collection, with the first including about one-third of the museum’s 300 drawings. Funhouse celebrates the use of humor and levity in art.
Ann Glazer: A Hero’s Journey is the OJAC’s next Cell Series exhibit, with the artist creating “textiles of our times.” Glazer uses modern technology and research for her large tapestries.

Hearts for Arts
During the week of Valentine’s, Feb. 11-14, museums all over the country, including the Old Jail, are observing Hearts for Art.
“Show some love to the OJAC collection this week of Valentine’s,” said Erin Whitmore, director of education. “Swing by the OJAC any time on the week of Valentine’s Day to celebrate ‘Hearts for Arts’.”
Patrons will receive a heart to place by their favorite art or artifact on exhibit.
“You can enjoy the ‘lovely’ displays across the museum, and use the heart frames to tag us on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #heartsforart #ojac,” said Whitmore.
And because February is also Membership Appreciation Month, Old Jail members receive a free gift when they visit, as well as 20 percent off one item in the OJAC Shop.
This is the museum’s 11th year to celebrate Hearts for Arts.
Coming Up
There are several other events coming up on the OJAC schedule, including this week’s Third Thursday Studio, which was rescheduled from Jan. 16 because of weather concerns.
Thursday’s event is “sold out,” according to Whitmore, but there is another Third Thursday adult workshop coming up from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Feb. 20 that will feature ceramic wall pockets.
For more information and to register, go to theojac.org or call 325-762-2269.
Also on the calendar is the next monthly Teen Tuesday Studio from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 11.
Designed for students in grades 7-10, this month’s activity will be “Ink-Splatter Galaxies.”
Snack, drinks, and all art supplies are provided.
The Old Jail will host a Family Festival from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.
The event will spotlight “Holi,” the Festival of Colors from India.
