Hamburger supper set Aug. 12

By Kathy Thomson

Everyone is invited to come out to the Bank Park at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 and meet the players, coaches, and cheerleaders that will represent Albany High during the fall sports season, and for a few dollars they can also enjoy a freshly cooked hamburger meal and dessert.

Albany Athletic Booster Club’s Hamburger Supper gives club members a chance to market items from the Spirit Shop, connect with players, coaches, and Albany sports fans, and to encourage fellow Lion and Lady Lion enthusiasts to join the Boosters and consider signing up as team parents.

Hamburger Supper

The hamburger meal is free for high school athletes and coaches and costs $7 a plate for everyone else.

The fundraiser is one of the main fundraisers for the Booster Club.

Cheerleaders will provide homemade ice cream for dessert.

“Each of the cheerleaders has been asked to bring at least a couple of freezers of ice cream, so we should have enough for everyone,” said Booster Club secretary Tisha Wilkins.

Program

Albany Lion varsity and JV football teams, cheerleaders, mascot, the Lady Lion volleyball players, and cross country teams will be introduced at the event.

Cheers and dance routines will be performed by girls who attended the 2019 Cheer Camp.

Items from the Spirit Shop will be available to purchase at the event.

“We will have new football T-shirts and three new designs of Albany T-shirts,” said Wilkins. “We are hopeful that the volleyball T-shirts will be in. We will also have flags and maybe some other items.”

T-shirts are priced at $15 and up. Flags are $20.

Athletes’ T-shirts are $5, and the varsity A’s for fall athletes and the cheerleaders are also $5.

Booster Activities

The Booster Club welcomes all fans of Albany sports to join.

Members sponsor the annual Hamburger Supper, sell souvenir items at home football games, support the teams, sell ads in the football program, rent cushions at Fandangle, work in the concession stand at sports events, set up the inflatable “A” at games, and host the athletic banquet in May.

Many of the members also serve as team parents, and currently the club needs a few more volunteers willing to support the Lions and Lady Lions in that capacity.

Team Parents Wanted

Team parents coordinate spirit building activities like decorating lockers and team buses on game days, organizing snacks for teams on road trips, painting the streets for homecoming, and trimming team tables at the athletic banquet.

“We have the fall varsity sports covered, but we still need a few team parents for JV and junior high fall sports,” said Wilkins. “We will need volunteers for several of the spring sports, but that is a ways down the road. If you are willing to be a team parent, please call me.”

Wilkins can be reached at 325-660-7443.

The Booster Club officers for this year are Stephen Kayga – president, D’Anna Knight – vice president, Shawnee Tischler – treasurer, and Wilkins.
